Full Circle

About nine years ago I made a film for my thesis project "Perception" on no budget, with a toy camera  and lots of determination. Thanks to the encouragement of my professor Jim Kenney, I entered and won the film/video section of the Adobe Achievement Awards. It was thrilling to be flown to N.Y., have a private party in the Guggenheim, as well as to have my work on display in the museum for two weeks. Not to mention meeting some of my design idols, Chipp Kidd, Sagmeister and a chance encounter Jonathan Wells (founder of res fest) who sent my film around the world in his film festival. As well as the gregarious Lynda Decker who gave me the most important career advice I've ever received.

I have had the great fortune to work on many amazing films, with amazing film makers who are changing the way we see the world we live in (Suzan Beraza's "Bag it", Megan Mylan's "Smile Pinki", Abbey Ginzberg's "Soul of Justice",  Tiore Film's "Mother Caring for Seven Billion").

Then out of the blue, Adobe contacted me and asked if I would judge the Adobe Achievement Awards for 2012. Wow, what an honor to be on the other side,  in a position to possibly change someone's life. I have now come full circle.

Reflecting over the past several years, I am awed by my good fortune and the generosity of all the amazing people that have shared their creativity, inspiration, and dreams with me.

The Great Sock War

For the last few months I have been working with a company called Craftsy.  I collaborated with their wonderful production and design team to help create this piece called "The Great Sock War".

State Farm Installation Complete

FINALLY we have finished an installation for Rita Gutierrez of State Farm . The goal of this installation was to increase the awareness of a State Farm Agency in the lower part of a building. Walla! The prints are on a semi-transparent material that allows light to come through while maintaining the image integrity.

Photos for Moss Pink Flora and Botanicals

A few months ago Greg Amanti and I collaborated in taking photos for Moss Pink Flora and Botanicals new website. Here are some of my favorites.

First day of SPRING

What a beautiful day!  Spring is here, liliacs are starting to bloom and finally it's raining!

We are in final revisions with QuickZip's animation, and working with a wonderful illustrator Matt Wood on a super hero, eco friendly animation for a non-profit in C.A. We also had the pleasure of working with Romy Purshouse on her animation for the city of Boulder as well as Lucia of Sustineo Creative and sound designer Dan Barnhart of Arsenal Studios.

On the print side, we have some preliminary logo sketches for a new furniture design company Eighty Split Studios located in both Denver and S.F. The evolution and thought process behind logo development has always fascinated me. We love process, and for this piece, we will share the growth and final implementation of the Eight Split Studios identity.

Time flies!  Crank Design has been expanding as well as working with many new clients from Australia, the Bay Area, and New York.  Soon, very soon, we will have more work up to show for the past few months.

We would like to congratulate Suzan Beraza and her film "Bag it" for being twittered by The Ellen Show. They say:  "Amazing documentary called "Bag It" about how bad plastic bags are for the environment. I'm done using them. Who's with me?"

Go "Bag it"! Find out more about the film here:  http://www.bagitmovie.com
